The series' popularity has continued with modern releases such as Monster Hunter Rise, which was released for the Nintendo Switch in March and has already sold 7 million copies. While the original game wasn't a massive hit, the series slowly built-up a cult following until it became a bona-fide phenomenon when games such as Monster Hunter Freedom and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite were released for the PSP several years later.
Monster Hunter began in 2004 with the release of the first game in the series for the Playstation 2. The movie will feature appearances from many of the iconic monsters (and the weapons and armor made from them,) from the game series. Aiden eventually grows up to be one of the supporting characters seen in Monster Hunter 4 and Monster Hunter World, and Legends of the Guild details how he got his start.
The movie tells the story of Aiden, a young boy who decides to become a professional hunter and join a hunting party after his home village is destroyed by an Elder Dragon.
